26 Boko haram members killed in Cameroon, others escape to Nigeria

26 members of Boko Haram were reportedly killed in an ambush by Cameroonian soldiers at Moza-Wara in Cameroon yesterday January 4th. Cameroonian investigative journalist Chief Bissong Etahoben said other militants who survived the attack escaped to Northern Nigeria

Indian Police arrest four Nigerians over internet fraud

The Hyderabad police in India on Saturday January 3rd arrested four Nigerians including a woman over internet fraud. The police said they recovered a car, money and mobile phones from them

The accused, Peter Austin (29), Eboh Felix (26), Steffi Ebohon (24) and Uzaonicha Daniel Iwenwanne (26), reportedly contacted a student named Mohd Wasiuddin, and told him he's won some money. The police said the gang managed to convince the unsuspecting victim to deposit money for registration, customs clearance, processing fees and other expenses.
"Believing the gang members, Wasiuddin deposited about Rs. 35 lakh in different bank accounts operated from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Mumbai, only to realize later that it was fraud" the police in charge said
The police arrested the four Nigerians after posing as another victim and tracing their phone call data record and email conversations.

This is the 7yr old girl who proved to the world recently that miracles still do happen. She survived a plane crash on Friday evening January 2nd that killed her parents, sister and cousin. The plane the family was flying in, a Piper PA-34 went down in Western Kentucky and by some miracle, Sailor Gutzler survived, trekked three-quarters of a mile in the dark barefoot until she found a house and knocked on their door, telling them what had just happened to her family.
"She told me that her mom and dad were dead. And that she had been in a plane crash." The man whose home Sailor knocked on told CNN

President Jonathan’s sister dies in Yenagoa hospital

President Jonathan's younger sister, Mrs. Nancy Jonathan-Olei has passed away. The presidency announced her passing in a statement by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati. The statement said Mrs. Jonathan-Olei passed away earlier yesterday Sunday January 4th at a hospital in Yenagoa after a brief illness. She was 52. Her burial arrangements will be announced later by the family.

Former Kenya PM Raila Odinga's son, Fidel Odinga found dead

The eldest son of former Prime Minister of Kenya, Raila Odinga, Fidel Odinga, was found dead at his home in Windy Ridge in Nairobi, Kenya in the early hours of yesterday morning Sunday January 4th. The 41 year old's lifeless body was found on his bed by his wife hours after he returned from an outing with friends and a day after he met his father for lunch. Police say it is not yet clear what caused his death. But foul play is not suspected as yet. Fidel (pictured right - mourners pictured left at the morgue yesterday) was not visibly sick before his passing.

His body was immediately taken to the morgue where an autopsy is expected to be carried out. His death is the number one trending topic in Kenya at the moment. May his soul rest in peace...amen.

The Rivers State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that in its increased onslaughts on criminals to usher in year 2015, has on a tip-off raided a suspected criminals' hide out.
On 3rd January, 2015 at about 01:00AM a team of Policemen raided Prana Hotel along Oboburu road in Akabuka of ONELGA and arrested fifteen suspected armed robbers/cultists who were already about to go out and carry out their nefarious act.

Members of Redeem Christian Church of God Victory house in Festac town and other branches were asked to show their Permanent Voters Cards during church service yesterday.

Pastor Adeboye, Friday night, reiterated his call on members to ensure that they get their permanent voter cards, to enable them exercise their civic responsibility during next month’s general elections.

Speaking on the theme, ‘The Burden Bearer’, during the church monthly Holy Ghost Service held at the Redemption Camp, Adeboye said the voter card is the only power the people have during election. He reminded the congregation that everyone was expected to collect and bring his/her card to the church on the first Sunday of January, saying that parish pastors will request for it. Mother strangles her one day child to death in Ebonyi

A 25 year old woman identified as Ugochukwu Otu, (pictured above), confessed to killing her one day old baby girl at her home in Enohia Nkalu Afikpo North Local Government Area, Ebonyi State on December 22nd 2014 over her desire to be free from the burden of motherhood.

According to Sunday Sun, Ugochukwu gave birth to her daughter on December 21st and was discharged the next day. On getting to her house, Ugochukwu said she was frustrated and was pushed to killing her baby after the man who impregnated her denied the pregnancy.
“I killed my one-day old baby girl intentionally because I don’t have N500 for her medical treatment. I want to be free lady. I didn’t have any intention to get pregnant. I was impregnated by one man called Monday, a native of Ozizza Afikpo North LGA. But later he refused to accept the pregnancy and I didn’t plan for it. I am not ready to marry; I want to be a free lady. I had to strangle the baby girl and put the corpse in a black poly­thene bag and dumped it along Ndibe beach road, near the bush. I don’t regret killing my baby because nobody was responsible for her upkeep.” she told police. The police say she will soon be charged to court.

Mother of Austria-based woman killed by her Edo lover cries out, demands for justice

The Octogenarian mother of Austria-based Benin woman, Ms Rose Aifuwa, who was killed by her Edo lover/business partner Festus Aimufua, on Christmas day 2014 has cried out for justice over the gruesome murder. Rose was brutally killed and her body dumped at the Upper Mission road extension in Benin city in Edo state by her lover named Festus (pictured left).

Speaking with Vanguard, the woman said she was with her daughter the night before she was killed and had left her in the care of Festus only to be told the next day that her daughter's corpse was found on the streets. She described her daughter as the bread winner of her family and pleaded with the Governor of Edo state Adams Oshiomole and the police to see the matter to the very end...

Cheyanne Willis, 19, says she was pulling into the parking lot of a suburban Cincinnati mall with her then boyfriend, Quincy Gardner, when he parked and pulled her out of the car. A group of six women, including two she knows, was waiting for her and allegedly took turns kicking and beating Willis, slamming her face on a car hood and shaving her head...

Army denies secret trial and dismissal of 203 soldiers

The Nigerian Army has denied reports of the secret trial and dismissal of 203 Nigerian soldiers in Borno state on December 24th which was reported on January 2nd. According to the Director Army Public Relations, Brigadier General Olajide Laleye, the army does not conduct any illegal trial 
"As I speak to you, I don’t know where such secret trial was conducted and how the story of 203 soldiers came about, maybe the writer conducted the trial. The army conducts its trials in line with laid down procedures and the suspects choose their own lawyers to represent them. The army does not do any illegal trial and whatever it does is according to the law.” he told Tribune
