Wreckage' of missing AirAsia jet is spotted in sea by search plane

Looks like the AirAsia flight that went missing early yesterday morning may be at the bottom of the sea. Indonesian officials say a search plane hunting for the missing plane have spotted objects in the sea believed to be wreckage from the plane which was carrying 155 passengers and 7 crew members.

An Australian Orion aircraft early this morning detected suspicious objects near Nangka island, about 160 kilometres south-west of Pangkalan Bun, near central Kalimantan, which is about 1,120 kilometres from the location where the plane lost contact while an Indonesian helicopter saw two oily spots in the search area a few hours later, this is according to Indonesian officials.

Experts believe that the aircraft was likely flying too slow to avoid a thunderstorm they encountered and this caused the plane to stall and crash.

Explosion kills 1 in Yobe state

An explosion rocked Arikime Primary School playing ground in Potikum, Yobe state around 6pm yesterday Dec. 28th, killing a sugar-cane vendor who was heading home after the day’s trading.

Residents of the area say they believe the bomb was targeted at football enthusiast who gather at the school playground every morning to play football. No group has taken responsibility for the attack but then again...how many terror groups are we fighting in Nigeria?

Photo: Man kills son in Ebonyi

The Ebonyi State Police Command yesterday Sunday Dec. 28th confirmed the arrest of a 45yr old man named Nwofu Igbo, who allegedly killed his son in Nwofe Community in Izzi LGA.

Government Area of the state. The Police Public Relations officer (PPRO) of the command, ASP Chris Anyanwu, said in Abakaliki that the matter was being investigated by the police.
“The police is prepared to get to the root of the problem that led to the killing of the boy,’’ Anyanwu said. He said that the suspect had confessed to the killing of his 16-year-old son who returned from Lagos to celebrate the Christmas with his family members.

I cried like a baby when Boko Haram attacked Kano college – Lecturer recounts ordeal

A lecturer at the Federal College of Education, FCE, Kabuga, Kano, Chief Christian Ojimba, in a recent interview with Vanguard recounted the ordeal he and some of his students went through when Boko Haram members visited their school on September 17th, an attack that lasted 45minutes. Below is what he said...
"It was a very serious attack and an unexpected one. Before the attack on our school, Boko Haram terrorists had attacked Kano State Polytechnic inside the city centre, with the new strategy of using female and male teenagers, who they arm with bombs. In broad-day light on Wednesday, September 17, our school, the Federal College of Technology, Kano, was attacked.

President Jonathan on 1-day private visit to the UK

President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday afternoon left Abuja for a 1-day private visit to the UK. According to a statement released by Presidential Spokesman, Reuben Abati, Pres. Jonathan was accompanied on the trip by some of his principal staff and personal aides and is expected back in Abuja today Monday December 29th. He is expected to meet with a delegation of people from Lagos and Delta state on Tuesday December 30th.

Jonathan’s government not responsible - Osinbajo

During a parley with journalists at his campaign office in Lagos on Saturday, APC VP candidate Professor Yemi Osinbajo criticized the current government, saying its not a responsible one...

Sahara Reporters responds to Nigerian army allegations against them

The Publisher of Sahara Reporters, Omoyele Sowore, has responded to accusations by the Nigerian army that his platform is a propaganda media for terrorism and Boko Haram. In a chat with The Paradigm, Mr Sowore said the Nigerian army has been reduced to a petty organization
"The Nigerian Army has been reduced to a petty organization. The other day they deployed their men chasing after newspaper delivery vans across Nigeria because some were critical of their handling of the anti-terrorism fight. Since they can’t find or arrest our copies, they’ve resorted to cheap blackmail. The content of the petition clearly speaks to how Boko Haram could be defeated, and states why they haven’t been defeated" Sowore said.

It was a sad Christmas day celebration for the Ofomata family residing at Umuele Umudim, Nnewi, Anambra State as a fire outbreak at their three-bedroom apartment roasted four of their children-  Chioma Ofomata, 6, Goodness& Mercy Ofo­mata who were twins, 3, and Ifeoma, 2, to death.

According to reports, the mother of the 4 girls had locked her children in the house and had gone over to the community center to collect her share of Christmas rice meant for widows in the community when the fire started.

54 soldiers sentenced to death by Nigerian military allegedly starved of food

54 soldiers sentenced to death for mutiny by a military court  in Abuja on Wednesday Dec.17th, are reportedly being starved of food and basic care, a military source told Premium Times

The soldiers, who were transferred from Abuja to Lagos on Sunday December 21st, are said to be serially shackled by their legs and crammed in two cells without beds or food or any form of care..
“The first cell has 30 soldiers. The second is underground and has 24 soldiers. There are no beds, no mattresses. The soldiers have not been fed since Sunday.” the source said.
The soldiers have been in this condition since they arrived Lagos Sunday Dec. 21st till Wednesday December 24th but no one knows if their conditions have since improved.
