The aggrieved youth were reportedly protesting against the imposition of a candidate by the party.
According to the protesters, they had selected Tijani Ahmed during the primaries, but the party, they say, is now imposing another candidate, Abdullahi Ibrahim.

Despite numerous calls to clam down, the youth kept throwing stones, which resulted in the crisis escalation and several people having sustained injuries.

However, the protesters were forcefully driven out of the venue after the security representatives had used the tear gas in fear of conflict further development.

Meanwhile the state governor Umaru Al-Makura, while delivering his speech urged people to vote for the opposition party at all levels to have stable future.
