APC Blasts First Lady For Intervention To Missing Girls Drama

The leading opposition force of Nigeria, the All Progressives Congress (APC), tagged the 'theatrical' intervention of Patience Jonathan in the abduction case of over 200 GGSS Chibok female students as distracting and counter-productive. First Lady’s Intervention And Tears

According to the statement, signed by the Interim National Publicity Secretary of the party, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the move of the First Lady was aimed at improving her husband’s image, rather than helping the victims.

The statement admitted Dame Patience was right to intervene as the First Lady, the woman and the mother of the nation. However, her role should not be turned into policy making.

It also urged the First Lady to stop apportioning blames at this time so that all efforts can be geared towards finding the girls.

The party wondered where the First Lady derived the powers to summon elected and appointed officials to Aso Rock to answer her queries over the missing girls, saying by doing so, she is usurping the President’s constitutional role, making him to look weak and ineffective in conducting the affairs of state and also making Nigeria the butt of jokes in the international community.

The statement added that if Dame Patience would not stop summoning public officials to her executive chambers, then the officials should ignore such illegal and unconstitutional summons.

The party wondered why she did not deem it necessary to have come out in the first few days of the girls’ abduction so that “something would have happened”.
“Now that the Boko Haram terrorists have claimed responsibility for the abduction and even threatened to sell the girls, the nation hopes that the First Lady and her husband now believe this is no ‘politics’,” it concluded.
It would be added that intervention of the First Lady caused a great uproar if we recall the case of the alleged arrest of #BringOurGirlsBack movement leader as per her order, and First Lady's dissaticfation with actions of Borno State Governor’s wife, Nana Shettima, who shunned a meeting with her.
