The MRS filing station on Airport road, Abuja was razed by fire on Sunday as a petrol tanker laden with Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded while discharging the product.
According to a News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent who witnessed the incident, the tanker was discharging the product at about 6.41 p.m when it suddenly burst into flames.
The fire personnel did not arrive the scene of the incident immediately even though the the station was on the main road. They came at about 7:20pm with about five trucks from the Federal Fire Service, National Judicial Institute and FCT Fire Service.
The cause of the fire is yet nknown, though some of the station's attendants said it could be as a result of spark from metal within the area when the tanker was discharging.
There was no casualty as the fire only affected the canopy while the main building and underground tank was spared.
Officials of the filling station and the fire fighters, however, declined to speak to journalist on the incident.
