A 14-year-old girl, Maimuna Abdullahi, who has been married
and divorced to a man that was twice her age, has just told her sad
story. In late 2012, Maimuna who grew up on the outskirts
of Kaduna, was sold into marriage by her parents for £120 (N35,000).
Her father, Haruna Abdullahi arranged for her to be married to his
friend's eldest son, Saidu who was twice her age. At that time she was
13 years of age.
Maimuna Abdullahi at school
According
to Daily Mail report, she was abused by her new husband, who locked her
away and forced hard labour on her. She ran away to her father's house
and rather than receive a warm welcome, she was beaten by her father who
later returned her to her husband's house.
Saidu, humiliated and
furious, slapped her repeatedly in the face, jerking her head from side
to side with the force of his blows.
After
some time, she fled once again, first to a sympathetic aunt in a nearby
village and then to a cousin in Kaduna where she now shares one cramped
room with her cousin's family, just a short walk away from Tattalli
school. When she showed up at school with bruises, they took her to the
hospital, where doctors found she was badly malnourished. The whip marks
on her back may last a lifetime, says teacher Victoria Dung.

Rainstorm Destroys 60 Buildings In Calabar
Not less than 60 residential buildings and public structures
were destroyed by rainstorm in the last one week in Calabar, the Cross
River Emergency Management Agency has said.
Flood
David Akate, the Deputy Director in charge of information for the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) in a statement issued on Monday in Calabar, said that perimeter fences, roads and school buildings were damaged due to the intensity of the rain.
He listed the areas mostly affected as Ikot Ansa, Ikot Eneobong, Ikot Nkebre and Big Qua Town in Calabar Municipality as well as some parts of Calabar South.
"The flood disaster is attributed to the blockage of drains and other water ways as well as the construction of buildings along flood-prone areas" he said. "Also affected are 11 vehicles, including a brand new car owned by the Vice Chairman of Ogoja Local Government Area, Mr John Orim. The traumatic experience is coming at a time the State Government was committing huge amount of human and material resources towards the rehabilitation and construction of roads and drainages across the state capital" he added.
The Director-General of the agency, Vincent Aquah, attributed the development to blocked drains within the city centre, and advised residents to adhere to the campaign against indiscriminate waste disposal and other harmful environmental practices.
He advised motorists to stay of flooded roads also warned parents not to allow their wards play around flooded drainages and ponds, adding that such developments might be dangerous and could lead to possible death.

With the media caught in a putrid hailstorm of rumors and accusations, we couldn't help noticing the way Bey shook off his kisses or turned away from his doting playfulness."Beyonce also raised eyebrows by including a cover of Lauryn Hill's heart break anthem Ex-Factor in her set. I think they are fine and will be together for a long time to come...

The Azzurri defender had earlier described his anger that the reffree had not noticed the incident.
Luis Suarez was banned by FIFA yesterday for nine games and four month Suspension.
Chiellini however said that he has forgiven the Liverpool man, but the ban By FIFA was "excessive".
He said: “Now inside me there's no feelings of joy, revenge or anger against Suarez for an incident that happened on the pitch and that's done," he said in a statement on his official website. "There only remain the anger and the disappointment about the match.
"At the moment my only thought is for Luis and his family, because they will face a very difficult period.
"I always thought that official judgements are unquestionable, but on the other hand I believe that Suarez has been excessively punished.
"I sincerely hope that he will be allowed, at least, to stay close to his team mates during the games because such a ban is really alienating for a player."
