French president cancels lunch after Iranian president asked not to share wine during his visit to France

French President François Hollande decided having wine with lunch is more important than breaking bread with Iran’s President Hassan Rouhani during an official visit to Paris.
Hollande scrapped the lunch at the Élysée Palace after Rouhani asked for a halal menu in keeping with his Muslim faith, and that also meant no wine at the table during his first visit as president to the City of Light.

Dogara receives 1st black MP in Poland, assures investors of Govt's resolve to eliminate corruption in business

The Speaker of the ‎House of Representatives, Rt Hon Yakubu Dogara, has invited foreign investors to come and invest in Nigeria, saying the present administration is in the process of clearing out hurdles raised by corruption which had previously discouraged some investors from doing business in Nigeria.
A press release issued by his special adviser on Media and Public Affairs‎, Mr Turaki Hassan, stated that the Speaker also‎ urged the Polish government and business community to take advantage of the ongoing diversification of Nigeria's economy to invest in fast growing sectors such as energy, solid minerals, tourism and agriculture.

Substandard electrical appliances responsible for the increase in fire outbreak in Lagos-LASG

The Lagos State Government has identified the influx of substandard electrical appliances into Lagos as one of the major causes of the increased rate of fire incident in the state. ‎
The Government in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations, Oluseye Oladejo, said preliminary investigation by his office and the State Fire Service Director, Rasak Fadipe, revealed that installation of substandard electrical appliances in most cases trigger fire outbreaks, adding that all hands to be on deck to forestall future occurrences. The government called on the Standard Organization of Nigeria SON to rise of to its responsibility to check the standard of materials coming into the state.

Rivers state Government asks Amaechi to account for N3 trillion

Rivers State government has called on the Minister for Transport and former Rivers State governor, Chibuike Amaechi, to account for about N3 trillion he received throughout his eight years tenure as the governor of the State. Speaking to media aides in Port Harcourt yesterday January 28th, the State Commissioner for Information, Tam George said the State was still reeling from “the catastrophic legacy of the former governor” despite receiving over three trillion naira in revenue in 8 years.

Man kills his ex-girlfriend's 7-month old child by flinging her against the ceiling and jumping on her

7-month-old Inganathi Mnyani died after her mother's ex-boyfriend, Zukile Nakupi, allegedly flung her against the ceiling, walls and prepaid electricity meter of her mother's Philippi home on Monday, January 25, killing her. (Photo: Family members carry her body from the mortuary to the family’s house in Philippi, Cape Town on Tuesday for burial) 
Andisiwe and ex-boyfriend, Nakupi allegedly started arguing after she woke up to feed the baby in the early hours of the morning. He reportedly jumped on Inganathi's body, despite attempts from her seven-year-old sister to protect her. The infant died at the scene.

Few weeks after a Nigerian grandfather Sampson Omogbo and his wife Carolyn, died in a house-fire alongside their 2 year old twin grand children at their home in USA (Read here), another Nigerian family, 26 year old Jeremiah Owojori, his pregnant wife Ashley, their 5 year old son and seven month old son all died in a tragic fire incident at their home at 201 Coleman Str. in West Monroe, Louisiana, USA. The sad incident took place on Sunday January 24th.

Man kills his 2 month old son because he won't stop crying

31 year old Danielle Whyte had given birth to her baby boy just seven weeks before he was allegedly murdered at the hands of the most unsuspecting suspect - his own father.

51-year-old Jose Feliciano was allegedly jealous of baby Mason for commanding the attention of Whyte. On Dec. 10, police say Feliciano grew angry after hearing Mason crying and yelled at him in his room to stop crying but the infant kept crying, shortly after, Whtye heard ‘several loud bangs.’

London to LA plane turns around as passengers & crew fall ill, then air is tested before paramedics are let on & luggage seized for checks


There was a strange occurrence on American Airlines Flight AA109 from London to Los Angeles. 6 cabin crew members and two passengers suddenly fell ill, forcing the plane to declare an emergency landing and return to London. When they landed at Heathrow, passengers said they were not told anything other than they should remain in their seats. An official from the London Fire service got onboard the plane to carry out tests on the air inside the cabin before passengers were allowed to disembark but their luggage was confiscated for analysis.

Buhari presents 2 anti-corruption bill to Senate for passage

As his campaign against corruption continues, President Buhari yesterday sent a letter to the Senate asking for the amendment of two bills that will advance his fight against corruption. The bills are the Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Bill 2016 and the Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Bill 2016. ‎
The Money Laundering Prevention and Prohibition Bill 2016, if passed into law, would expand the scope of money laundering offenses, provide protection for employees of various institutions as well as bodies who may discover money laundering, and the establishment of mutual legal assistance in criminal matters. 

Lady dies of Lassa fever in Lagos

A 27 year old lady died from Lassa fever in Lagos on Tuesday January 26th. ‎Confirming her death, the Lagos state Commissioner for Health, Jide Idris, said the lady died of the disease at the Ijede General Hospital. She is said to have traveled to Lagos from Edo state on January 2nd and had been down with a fever.

Sweden plans to expel up to 80,000 asylum-seekers

Sweden intends to expel up to 80,000 migrants who arrived in 2015 and whose application for asylum has been rejected, Interior Minister Anders Ygeman said Wednesday.
"We are talking about 60,000 people but the number could climb to 80,000," the minister was quoted as saying by Swedish media, adding that the government had asked the police and authorities in charge of migrants to organise their expulsion.

Wife of pastor freed from Iran files legal separation,claims he abused her for years


The wife of an American pastor who was imprisoned for nearly four years in Iran filed court documents to legally separate from him the same day he returned home to Idaho - claiming that she has been abused for years.
Saeed Abedini, 35, was one of four Americans released in Iran under a negotiated prisoner exchange on January 16 after being sentenced by an Iranian court in 2013 to eight years in prison. The U.S. agreed to free seven Iranians as part of the exchange.

US Muslim man who plotted attack against a temple and Israelis arrested by the FBI


A Milwaukee man arrested on a charge of trying to buy machine guns to carry out an attack on a Masonic temple also wanted to travel to the Middle East and kill Israelis but abandoned that plan as unworkable, federal agents said in court documents.
Federal prosecutors charged 23-year-old Samy Mohamed Hamzeh on Tuesday with unlawfully possessing a machine gun and receiving and possessing firearms not registered to him. The FBI recorded conversations between Hamzeh and two federal informants talking about an attack on a Masonic temple in Milwaukee, according to an affidavit setting out the evidence against Hamzeh.

Lassa fever: Lagos places residents on red alert


The Lagos State Government on Wednesday said it was doing everything possible to defeat the deadly Lassa fever like it did during the outbreak of Ebola virus, just as it urged residents of the state to be on red alert by embracing personal and environmental hygiene.

According to Rights Activist Dr Joe Odumakin, who shared the photos, their lawyer went to see the woman at the hospital where she is currently being treated. The woman recounted her harrowing history as a victim of domestic violence, made a statement to the police and the suspect was subsequently arrested. He will be charged to court tomorrow. Meanwhile his family and community members said the matter will be settled the  'family way'

The Minister of Justice and the Attorney General of the Federation, Justice Abubakar Malami, says the Federal government will soon receive another $750 million allegedly laundered by former Military dictator, Sani Abacha and £6.9 million by former Delta state governor, James Ibori who is serving jail term in the UK over corruption charges.

Mrs Elizabeth Ojelabi, the mother of four year old Michael Ojelabi, who was kidnapped by an unidentified woman at his school, Mafina Primary School Unity estate along Iba expressway in Lagos on January 20th, says she is optimistic that her son will return home soon. No word has been heard from the kidnapper since the little boy was taken.

Tinubu accuses PDP members of trying to create a feud between him and Buhari

APC National leader, Bola Tinubu, has accused PDP members of the trying to create a feud between him and President Buhari. In a statement he released through his media aide, Sunday Dare, Tinubu said recent publications on social media tagged, ‘Destroy the reputation of Tinubu and his relationship with Buhari’, shows that some disgruntled members of the opposition were out to cause trouble. He stated that he has never granted any interview discussing Buhari and the 2019 election. The statement reads in part;

Robyn McHale, 28, died six days after being airlifted to Royal London Hospital in a critical condition from outside Forres Primary School in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire.

President Buhari to visit Kenya, participate in 26th Summit of African Union Leaders

President Muhammadu Buhari will leave Abuja Wednesday on a three-day state tour to Kenya. The tour is aimed at enhancing bilateral and trade ties with Kenya. This is contained in a statement made by Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity on Tuesday, January 26.

Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai earlier yesterday visited the scene of the inferno at the Station Market in Kaduna local government area of the state. The market was gutted by fire last night and three almajiris who sleep in the shops reportedly burnt beyond recognition.

The governor expressed his sympathy and affirms government's commitment towards rebuilding the razed market.

Mrs Floyinka Ayinda has been arrested and detained at Idimu division on charges of vandalism of NNPC pipeline in Isheri Olofin, Lagos, after a pipe water well was discovered to be connected to NNPC pipeline.
According to PM News, the 59-year-old landlady has been siphoning petrol illegally at her residence located at KML 1, LASU Road, Iyana Odo bus stop in Isheri Olofin, for the past three years.
