Chibok LG Boss Says He Is Not Aware Of Abduction Of 20 Fulani Women

Following reports that about 20 women were recently kidnapped in Chibok, Borno state, the chairman of Chibok Local Government, Baana Lawan, has said he is not aware of such incident.

Leadership reports that he disclosed this yesterday, June 10 while addressing the members of the Bring Back Our Girls Campaign Group.

According to him, he was only aware of the incident that took place on Monday in a village near Chibok where houses were razed and two people confirmed dead.

He also commended members of the group for their persistence and not giving their fight for the release of the over 200 girls who were abducted by Boko Haram in April.

Baana said, "Thank you for your effort and your time since our girls were abducted on the 14th of April. You people have protested, praying for the release of the girls. We thank you all. We still pray and cry to the world to assist us for the safe return of the girls."

He therefore called on Nigerians and international communities not to cease praying for the release and safe return of the girls.

Reports surfaced online some days back that no fewer than 20 young women from three clustered nomadic settlement were abducted on Thursday, June 5, by suspected Islamist Boko Haram group near Chibok. The gunmen were said to have tormed the villages of Bakin Kogi, Garkin Fulani and Rugar Hardo along Damboa road in Chibok local government seized the women, ordered them into vehicles at gunpoint and drove them off to an unknown location.

Meanwhile there are strong indications that the Federal Government is ready to increase the operational allowances of soldiers on Internal Security Operation (ISO) nation-wide so as to boost their fight against terrorism.
