Leadership reports that a government official and native of Chibok who pleaded anonymity said: “We are all in high spirit, I just returned from Chibok and from the information reaching us so far, we may very soon – in fact between now and tomorrow (Friday), have our girls freed”.
Some top security officials in the state who were also in a happy mood confirmed that the dreaded Boko Haram sect might release the schoolgirls within 48 hours.
One of the security sources said: “From what we have received so far, the negotiation going on in Chad have recorded tremendous progress and we are looking forward to receiving the girls anytime soon”.
He stated that because they were dealing with a very unpredictable set of people, it is too early to start celebrating.
He added that they have been expecting the girls since Monday and hope this time it’s for real.
Reacting to the news, Mr Asabe Kwambura, the principal of Government Secondary School, Chibok, where over 200 girls were abducted on April 14, 2014 by Boko Haram said that though she was not aware of the possible release of the girls, the news is a welcomed development.
She said: “I will be very happy to receive the girls; in fact I will go to anywhere they are to receive them; if they are released today, I will be in Abuja to receive them.”
It’s been 200 days since the Chibok schoolgirls were abducted and they are yet to be found.
Following the alleged ceasefire agreement between the insurgents and the Federal Government announced on October 17, there have been several reports that the girls are coming home soon but till date, they are yet to be reunited with their family.
