Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu, chairman of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is appealing to former president Olusegun Obasanjo to work for the progress of the party.
Speaking during a reconciliatory meeting of PDP members from the South-West in Abuja, Mu'azu called on Obasanjo to put the past behind him, adding that for the party to be successful in 2015, the contribution of the former president was needed.
He also called on PDP leaders in the South-West to reconcile with Obasanjo.
"Under my watch, we shall reward loyal party members. I will not circumvent the rules and loyalty will be our watchword without fear or favour.
"I beg you, you (South-West PDP leaders) should go and see Baba in Abeokuta. He is our father and that is how God wants it. I beg you, go and see him," Mu'azu said.
However, old grievances resurfaced at the reconciliation meeting which drew political giants of the PDP from the South-West. The National Vice Chairman of the party (South-West), Kashamu Buruji, openly refused to exchange pleasantries with his predecessor, Segun Oni.
Also, the absence of the former national secretary of the party, Olagunsoye Oyinlola and a governorship aspirant in the forth-coming Osun gubernatorial election, Iyiola Omisore further, cast doubts on the ability of the party in the region to reconcile its aggrieved members.
The PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) Chairman, Chief Tony Anenih, who was among the key dignitaries at the meeting however urged PDP leaders in the region to close ranks for the benefit of the party in future elections.
