NFF Elects New President

After Aminu Maigari’s resignation from the presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) yesterday became official, the Football body has chosen its new leader.

The NFF elected to the presidency, Christopher Giwa who is the chairman of the Nigeria Professional League club side Giwa Football Club.
He had 27 votes to defeat former vice president Mike Umeh who could only muster two votes.
Only 29 members of the supposed 44 participated in the election due to arrests by the DSSS.


The Department of State Security Services (DSS) had arrested NFF chieftains including the NFF General Secretary Musa Adamu and some states delegates and have been interrogating them.
The newly elected personnel were sworn in by one notary public Frank Ike Chude.

Vice President of the NFF will be Obinna Ogba  as he ran unoppossed, while former committee chairman, Effiong Johnson won the Chairman of Chairmen with 28 votes.

The nations  representatives where, North Central had Yahaya Adama and Sani Mohammed as board members while Muasu Suleiman and Sherif Inuwa emerged North West representatives in the new board.
Felix Agu Anyansi retained his position representing the South East alongside Felix Amechi Ogwa.

Deji Tinubu will represent the South West with Otunba Sunday also coming on board.

It would be recalled that the NFF has been embroiled with crisis lately over the presidency of the body. The incumbent president, Aminu Maigari, has been removed and reinstated over charges of misconduct levied against him by some members of NFF executive committee.

The crisis had led to FIFA suspending Nigeria from all its international football related activities. The suspension was later lifted after the NFF rescinded its decision to sack Maigari without conducting election as FIFA rules stipulate.
