Victor Moses hopes his goal in the 2-0 FA Cup fourth-round win over Bournemouth can help kick-start his Liverpool career.
Moses, who is on-loan from Chelsea, had
not scored for Brendan Rodgers’ side since the 2-2 draw with Swansea in
September having found opportunities at Anfield just as hard as at his
parent club.
But he is determined to capitalise on a
promising display on the south coast and force his way into Rodgers’
thinking for Premier League duties.
“It was really important. I know I
haven’t been myself for the past few weeks but I just want to kick on
from here and try to get a few more goals in the second half of the
season. It’s crucial for me and the club as well,” he told his club’s
website.
“We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy
game for us. They were a good side. But we came here to make it
difficult for them, and we got the early goal.
“In the second half, we came out with
more belief in the talent that we’ve got. We got the second goal and
that was game over for them.”
The victory over Bournemouth not only
strengthened the Reds’ ambitions in the FA Cup this season, but offered a
timely confidence boost ahead of the Merseyside derby next week.
Moses, who pledged to work hard
beforehand to earn a place in the XI, described the Premier League
meeting on Tuesday as ‘massive’ and a potential signpost of the
campaign.
“It’s going to be a massive derby for
us,” he said. “We’re looking forward to it, we know how important the
game is for us at the moment.
“We just want to keep working hard
together as a team and hopefully, if we can get three points against
Everton, it will be key for us.
