DEFECTION: Court Fixes Date For Judgement

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday fixed March 26 for its judgement over the propriety of defection of lawmakers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Justice Ahmed Mohammed fixed March 26 for his judgement following the adoption of written addresses by the lawyers to the parties.

The lawmakers, led by Senator Abdullahi Adamu, have asked the court to restrain the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives from declaring their seats, and that of any other member of the PDP who intend to join another political party, vacant.

They also called the court to restrain the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) from accepting the nomination of any candidate, and conducting bye-elections towards filing their seats.

They named the PDP, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur and the Independent National Election Commission (INEC) as co-defendants to the suit.
