Five of the abducted Chibok girls have reportedly escaped from their captor, the Boko Haram insurgents.

One escaped recently while four others escaped last week but it was not made public in the interest of their safety.
The
National Chairman of the Kibaku Area Development Association, Dr. Pogu
Bitrus, who confirmed the news refused to reveal the identity of the
girl who recently escaped, saying it could endanger her life.
Dr. Pogu was quoted as saying, "The girl is currently at a location I cannot disclose. But I can assure you that she is safe," while also revealing that four others escaped last week.
Also confirming the news, TheCable’s standby source in Chibok said it is true that one girl escaped.
After
over 200 school girls were abducted from Chibok, Borno state, some of
them managed to escape and have since been re-united with their
families.
Some have spoken to journalist, narrating their terrible ordeal in the Sambisa forest.
When
Boko Haram leader, Shekau released a video showing the abducted girls
reciting a chapter from the Qur'an, some of the girls who managed to
escape identified their classmates in the video.
Boko Haram had
asked the Federal government to negotiate by releasing some of its
detained members in exchange for the girls and the Nigerian government
had reportedly flown in Dubai-based Nigerian journalist, Ahmad Salkida to help in the negotiation but at the last minute, Nigerian Government backed out of the swap deal.
Meanwhile, the presidential spokesman, Reuben Abati, denied knowledge of any such deal.
