17 Year-old Boy Has 232 Teeth Removed From His Mouth (Pictures)

A 17-year-old Indian boy has had 232 teeth removed from his mouth in Mumbai India after a seven hour operation. The boy, Ashik Gavai had been travelling all over the vast country after experiencing swelling in his right jaw.
Mumbai JJ Hospital’s dental department head, Dr Sunanda Dhiware revealed to BBC that the boy had been feeling the pain for over 18 months and had travelled from Village to village seeking reliefs from dental doctors.

Dr Sunanda Dhiware said: “Ashik’s malaise was diagnosed as a complex composite odontoma where a single gum forms lots of teeth. It’s a sort of benign tumour, At first, we couldn’t cut it out so we had to use the basic chisel and hammer to take it out.

“Once we opened it, little pearl-like teeth started coming out, one-by-one. Initially, we were collecting them, they were really like small white pearls. But then we started to get tired. We counted 232 teeth,” she added.
The surgery was done on Monday and took two surgeons and two assistants and Doctors said it was a world record. Ashik can now boast of 28 teeth.
Dr Dhiware ascribed the case as a very rare situation she has never seen in her 30-year career”, but said she was “thrilled to get such an exciting case”.
Ashik’s father Suresh Gavai told the Mumbai Mirror : “I was worried that it may turn out to be cancer so I brought him to Mumbai”.
