The All Progressives Congress has once again called on the
Federal Government to negotiate with Boko Haram, to secure the release
of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls being held hostage.
Mr. Osita Okechukwu
Speaking
on Sunday to newsmen, the spokesman of the APC in the South-East, Mr.
Osita Okechukwu, said the Federal Government should explore all options
in the release of the abducted girls, including negotiation, adding that
military approach could put the girls' lives in danger.
He said negotiation should be explored to the fullest as it might be the beginning of peace.
"Whatever is humanly, whatever is legally possible should be done to get the girls back, including negotiation and diplomacy.
"Whatever could be done to bring the girls back, we are in support of it," Mr Okechukwu said.
According
to Okechukwu, if he were in the position of the president, he would ask
the insurgents how many people they want released and they say 100 or
200, he should be ready to release them.
"We can lose face as a people to negotiate with bandits but we are only doing that to bring back the girls," he said.
Okechukwu
who described Boko Haram as bandits, brigands and deranged people, said
their motives did not conform to Islam, Christianity or even atheism.
He
begged the government to consider the plight of the parents and
guardians of the abducted girls and do everything possible to bring them
back.
Recall that Boko Haram had on May 12, released a video, asking the Federal government for negotiations in which the girls would be exchanged for their members in jail. However, the Federal Government rejected the proposal.
