The wife of Borno State Governor stated she had ignored the all-night sitting on May 4, 2014, Sunday, because, "judging by the body language of Jonathan’s wife, the meeting was organized to publicly humiliate her".

Nana revealed her position though a press secretary, Aisha Muhammad Hassan. She expressed shock that Dame Patience accused her husband, Kashim Shettima, of being responsible for female students' abduction on national television, after she had, behind the cameras, hailed his efforts at rescuing the kidnapped students.

Nana added that she had a meeting with Patience and deliberations on April 28, in the presence of the wives of service chiefs and the national women leader of the Peoples Democratic Party Kema Chikwe.
Therefore, Borno Governor’s wife, rather than attend the meeting which she was certain would turn sour, chose instead to go to Chibok, where she met with parents and relatives of the abducted schoolgirls to offer support to them.

The statement also emphasised that Nana’s decision does not represent her attitude to Patience Jonathan:
“The Governor’s wife has the highest respect for Dame Patience Jonathan, and couldn’t have done anything to disrespect her”.
It has been learnt that the First Lady has shown great resentment over the absence of Shettima during the meeting and cancelled a protest she once volunteered to lead to Chibok to demand the release of the girls.
