Osun polytechnic students turned out en masse on May 22,
2014, Thursday, to protest the lingering strike by the the Academic
Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and Non Academic Staff Union of
Polytechnics (NASUP).
Most of the protesters are the
students from various state-run colleges of education, as well as
polytechnic schools in the state.
The students, numbering over
200, marched down a busy road, reached the Orita Ola-Iya junction in
Oshogbo. However, an anti-riot police unit confronted them, used force
to disperse the protesters.
According to SaharaReporters, about
sixteen of activists were arrested. The exact information of injured
protesters was not available at the time of filing the present report,
however, eyewitnesses reported that the arrests were quite brutal.
About a hundred of protesters regrouped and went to another junction, at Oke-Ifa in an attempt to continue their action.

In
a parallel development, confrontation between the protesting students
of the Obafemi Awolowo University and a presidential convoy in Ile-Ife,
Osun State, left a couple of protesters injured.
