There was chaos in Saje area of Abeokuta,
Ogun State yesterday, after an unidentified man, suspected to be a
ritualist was set on fire by angry mob.
The suspected ritualist who was not a resident of the area was set ablaze at about 6:35pm following his suspicious loitering around and allegedly pretending to ask directions from a school girl who was in company of her elder sister and in turn charming her with a substance he sprayed into her eyes, thereby making her loose her senses.
An eyewitness, who simply identified himself as Godwin, who said the suspect had been roaming the street for some days prior to his death was attacked by some boys, who had accused him of spraying perfume into the girl’s face, who was writhing in pain, and acting abnormal.
But when he refused to give the girl the cure to stop the pain, this angered the boys saying:
“The action infuriated the boys who were still worried over the arrest of some boys yesterday by the police at Ijaiye area. So, they decided to deal with him before the arrival of the policemen.”
Meanwhile the suspect's whose body was still burning when the police arrived the scene has been deposited at the General Hospital Mortuary, Ijaiye, Abeokuta while his victim is yet to regain her consciousness as she was taken away by some relatives.
